Synopsis

Dr. Field’s research and publications have focused on ethical issues in managed care, public policy and legal aspects of genetic screening, and health care industry restructuring. He is the author of Health Care Regulation in America: Complexity, Confrontation and Compromise (Oxford University Press, 2007), the only comprehensive review of health care regulation in the United States.

Prior to joining University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, Dr. Field was in charge of business planning and development for the primary care network of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. He led many of the acquisitions of physician practices that created the network, directed other business development transactions, and developed plans for the network’s growth. He has also conducted health policy research at the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences and the Center for Law and Health Sciences at Boston University and has practiced health law with the Philadelphia firm of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll. He is a senior fellow of the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania and a member of the adjunct faculty of the Wharton School.
